During a recent visit to India, Scania CEO Leif Östling attracted a good deal of coverage in the local media. Over the course of the trip, he gave interviews to a business magazine, daily newspaper and television network.

Scania CEO Leif Östling visited India on 22–24 February to follow up on a press conference from the previous month. At that time Scania announced a SEK 200 million investment in an industrial facility in Bengaluru, India.
During the visit, three interviews were conducted: one with the business magazine Autocar Professional; one with The Time of India, an English-language newspaper; and one with New Delhi Television (NDTV).
In the interview with Autocar Professional, Mr Östling says “So you can say we saw the Indian demand coming, and we were ready to step in five years ago. Before that we were not ready.”
He also talks about the Indian economy and market situation “But you can also say that the Indian economy and the Indian market have developed a lot. It was a very depressed market during the 1990s, and only towards the middle of the ’90s did the Indian government take a number of very bold decisions to deregulate the market and to introduce a market economy modelled on what we have in Europe and the United States. It took quite some years before that model started to work in India, but in the past 10 years I must say you have made enormous progress.” Take part of the whole article >>
